Koolaid Adventures

I spent most of the weekend spinning and knitting because Erik worked all 3 days at the radio station. While he was out I had 2 koolaid adventures. In my dyeing attempts I bought 4 canisters of koolaid thinking it would be more economical than the packets, but after opening and dyeing one skein, I realized that most of the powder was sugar instead of dye like the packets. So I had to return my masses of koolaid. I then went to a different grocery store where it was on sale for 10 cents cheaper than the previous grocery store. I bought 33 packets! I’m making a business plan for handspun and dyed yarn. I’ll keep working on it and see if I could get it to be profitable selling in yarn stores or on the internet.

Last night my oldest friend Heather came over for a pizza dinner. She was a good excuse to clean. When she got there I was dripping from working so hard. She is at an interesting point in her life with law school and her love life. We also went on a quick walk then I bid on a moustershire on ebay, which I didn’t win. Those people get so excited in the last few seconds of an auction.

kappa reunion party

Amy and I had a party last night at her house and invited some of the local Kappas from our pledge class. The party was at Amy's house and I grilled out jerk chicken using her grill; at first I was screwing up the birds, but then I got the hang of it and it was just right, not to dry or raw. I was very tasty.
I also got a Christmas present that Lynn bought me 2 yrs ago. It was Noro Big Kureyon in lots of bright colors. Now I just have to decide what to make with it.
I'm really tired today; the party went late.

Fathers' Day Weekend

We spent the weekend painting Erik's bathroom woodland green which is really more like a sage green. So far we have done the primer and the 1st color coat and will do one more coat this week. Tonight we have a new small group at church "Group Ebenezer." We are trying it out because it will be fun to meet other 20 and 30 yr olds. It should be fun. I'm going to lead the knitting business meeting and then take off a bit early to try the new small group.
It was also our 11 month anniversary and Marc and Sharon's 28th anniversary, so the 4 of us got 99 cent junior banana splits from Sonic and watched National Treasure on their screened-in porch. It was really fun.
Yesterday was father's day and I gave papa some Dean and Deluca olive spread. I think he was excited because he said that one time he tasted it and but it in his basket but then looked at the price and then put it back on the shelf...so I think it was a good gift. I gave Steve a grill wok for veggies. I called my dad who says he is job hunting and searching for swarming bees. He has gotten 7 stings. He likes getting on kicks. I wonder if he is neglecting the bonsai trees for the bees?

11 month anniversary

Eleven months since Lynard Skynard have gone by and Erik and I have learned many things about each other and how to communicate. It's been really great and I'm thrilled to have such a wonderful man in my life; he is truely a gift from God.

oh to move...

I've decided that I really like spinning (it's great and mindless when all my current projects are cables or lace). Last night I broke into my mom's 30 yr. old cream colored roving while Erik studied for his math test. Summer classes are so condensed it takes much more studying.
My lease is coming to an end in 2 months. Last night Ashley said she will probably get a 1 bedroom at our same complex. I need to find out how to give my 60 days notice that I will not be renewing my lease. I don't think my parents will be pleased about me bringing all my stuff back to their house. My mom didn't like it when I brought back extra pillows a couple weeks ago, how is she going to like all my junk. I'll bring some of the furniture back to Nana and Papa's basement. I have these two old couch chairs and ottomans that are currently wearing slip covers. President W actually sat in one of them. At some point I would like to save some money and try to reupholster them at home so they would look better than they do now with falling-off slip covers. I don't know how to do this but maybe someone could teach me.

Bravo!

Due to Erik's back breaking work helping Kama and Bryan move they took us out to Bravo last night for dinner. It was really fun and then we all went to the Jone's store and Kama and I tried on shoes while the guys looked at gadgets.

Tonight Erik and I are going to our first T-Bones game for our anniversary which is on Friday. I'm excited and am wearing red today for the game.

I think Erik and I are going to try a new Bible study at our church for 20-30 yr. olds; our current small group isn't meeting for the summer and might be coming to an end. It is on the night of knitters guild, so I might go lead the business meeting and then take of a bit early to go to "the surprising things Jesus said."

great weekend

I had a wonderful weekend. Erik and I really enjoyed each others company. We saw lots of friends and ran errands: Yarn Barn expedition, Qdoba, Katie and Derek's house warming party, Hair Cut, Ran into the Lancasters at Costco, Small Group Cookout...and all that was just on Saturday. Friday night I hung out with Dana and Rachel and Rachel's new apartment. We had girl talk and watched a chick flick while eating popcorn. I really miss the good times with my college girlfriends. Saturday morning Megan came over to go for a walk, but it was pouring, so we went to My Java and she gave me good advise about life. I told Erik that he needs to try to "woo" me more often, so on Sunday morning he suprised me with doughnuts in bed. It was sweet.

Limerick

There once was a spinner who made yarn
Her wheel was so old she said darn
As she planned for the weekend to buy a bobbin
If her man took her to Lawrence, her yarn wouldn’t be so dense

Well that is my makeshift limerick. I don’t know if I used the right form.

I’m also in desperate need of a haircut; it feels like straw and is stringy.

lunch

Erik was sweet and wanted to eat lunch with me in the park, so we sat in his car in the shade and had a great time. We also went to Hen House for fruit, but there were samples out so I ate those instead of buying any. I also had a free cookie.

Dana might come to NIH for the first time. I’m bringing my spinning for show and tell. I also found my blue lace shirt and am wearing it today out of my glee of finding it.

I'm a spinnin'

I twas a spinnin' last night with Erik. I'm using this 30 year old wheel that needs a little maintenance, so the draw strings would fall off, and I'd have my yarn all over with the strings and need Erik to help me put it all back together; this happened at least 5 times last night. I noticed that it happens more when my bobbin gets full. I think I need a bigger one. Problem: it is an old custom wheel, so I don't know if I can find a bobbin that is big enough...But alas I made my first ball of double ply yarn! I'm going to show my friends at No Idle Hands, but I was kind of embarrassed at its thin to chunky inconsistencies, so last night I also started spinning another skein so I can show them some "better" yarn. All in all I really like spinning and I wish I could stay at home and start a cottage company with hand spun yarn and knitted items. Maybe I'll marry a millionaire and just have fun.

Yarn Shop Party

Last night was the party celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Yarn Shop and More. It was at one of the owner’s homes. I went kind of clueless; I didn’t know that it was the anniversary party, nor that it was a dinner party. I ate a Weight Watchers meal before going but then ate another small meal when I was there. I knew it was too many pts, so I had Erik come walk with me after the party. The party however was great! I got lots of knitting done and they gave us presents. We each picked a balloon and then according to our balloon number we got to choose a gift: colorful tote bags, needle holders, or my bag. My bag was different from the others, it is a Beijo silver backpack/purse convertible. On first glance it isn’t something I would choose for myself, but I rather like it and think it is very cute a fashionable. The other fun gift we got were fabric labels that say “from the needles of [Nell Myers].” Of course not everyone’s labels are from my needles. I’ve always wanted some of these and am very excited! These will be great to put in finished projects. Speaking of projects…I’ve lost my most recent one: a blue cotton lace ¾ pullover. I can’t seem to find it and am starting to get bummed out that I won’t find it.

Sheep Show and Curry

The sheep show went well. I took the “Amazing Angora” class, and yes I still want one. It was so cool; my teacher spun directly off the rabbit. As it turned out, Kama couldn’t come, so I spent the day with Mary and Chris. Quite a bit of the time we spent wondering from vendor to vendor. I bought a yarn holding bracelet, so I can walk and knit. I also got some white, purple, and pink roving. We even ate at the famous Wheel Drive-In. Sunday I spent the day at my mom’s house trying to figure out how to use the spinning wheel and why it wasn’t working well. I also went on a long walk with Erik (we both got blisters). By the end of the day, I had figured out the wheel to a reasonable extent and had some decent 1 ply yarn. Now I need to make it two ply by spinning it the opposite direction.

Saturday night after the sheep show, Erik and I went to Ruchi for his first Indian food experience. He said after the first course, “this is not my kind of food, and I will never come back,” but by the time he tasted his entrée he was making yummy noises and I’m pretty sure he will want to go back. We ate the leftovers again on Sunday night and he was still enjoying his butter chicken.

It's Morning but the Sky is Black

The weather is really concerning me…it looks like it might hail. I hope the weather will be good for the weekend since it is finally decided to go to the sheep show. Carol decided not to come, so we had an extra seat. The final gang includes Chris, Mary, Kama, and myself. It will be a blast. I hope it rains all out today, so it doesn’t rain at all tomorrow. If it has been raining in Sedalia, I’m sure the fair grounds will be muddy so I will have to wear appropriate footgear. I’m excited to see the vendors; I’m searching for spinning wheel dangling earrings.
Tonight Erik wants to go out for dinner (restaurant undecided), I’ll have to watch my points so I don’t O.D. on food like last night. It might mean Applebee’s since they have a WW menu, but I’d rather use the entertainment book to save money. I loooove saving $ and not wasting it. I think Chris and I might help each other stay accountable about the points.

Weight Watchers Bunny

I find myself eating badly all week and then trying to eat really well the day before I weigh-in at Weight Watchers in hopes to drop what I put on that week. I go tonight and hope that I haven’t gained. I’m finding that after dinner (even though I am full, I still want to eat for entertainment), so I need to stay busy so that I won’t eat.
This weekend is the sheep show in Sedalia, MO; I’m trying to get some friends to go on Saturday but we still don’t know who is coming or when or how. There is a class that I want to take about raising, harvesting, and spinning angora rabbits. If one enters the raffle, he or she could win the demo bunny. I’d really like to enter, but I don’t know what I would do with a rabbit once my lease is up. If I move to my parents’ or grandparents’ house, I have been emphatically told that “rabbits are not allowed.” It makes me want to use the bunny as a deciding factor…if I win, that means that I need to buy my own place. I don’t know that I would really do that.
